WURTSBORO – Jim Arnott, the administrator of Sullivan County International Airport, has lost his fight with pancreatic cancer. The Wurtsboro resident was 74 years old at the time of his passing on Sunday.
“Jim was an extraordinary public servant,” said Legislature Chairman Rob Doherty. “He was instrumental in the development of the county’s airport, which he oversaw, and was key in reducing the operational deficit that plagued the airport prior to his arrival.”
After years of financial struggles, the airport has begun to turn a corner under Arnott’s leadership.
In September 2022, Arnott announced that the airport received A $18.5 million grant from the state to renovate the terminal and the airport and also welcomed a large commercial jet earlier this month when a Boeing 737 landed in Bethel carrying corporate passengers.
