POUGHKEEPSIE – City police officers responded to a report of a domestic dispute in Poughkeepsie Tuesday afternoon just after 2:00 p.m. The male subject involved fled the area on foot, resulting in a foot pursuit with several officers chasing the man.
The subject discarded two firearms in a catch basin on Garden Street during the pursuit that ended with the subject being taken into custody on Garden Street between the Financial Parking Deck and the Garden Street municipal parking lot.
Several officers were securing the catch basin until the grate could be removed and the firearms recovered for evidence.
The male was taken to police headquarters for processing.
The Tuesday afternoon recovery of two weapons brings the total of illegal handguns seized by the City of Poughkeepsie police to 35.
