GOSHEN – A 25-year-old Otisville man has been sentenced in Orange County Court to nine to 12 years in state prison for committing two crimes – one involving the firing of a gun some five times in the vicinity of North Street in the Town of Wallkill at 4 a.m. on December 12, 2021, and for robbing an Uber driver of $40 following a minor traffic accident.
That incident occurred at about 6 p.m. near the intersection of Chattel Street and Linden Avenue in the City of Middletown.
Jason Mendoza was sentenced to eight years in prison and five years of post-release supervision in the gun incident and one to three years in prison in the robbery case. The court ordered the two sentences to run consecutively so Mendoza’s combined sentence is nine to 12 years in prison.
He pled guilty to both crimes.
Wallkill Town and Middletown City Police investigated both cases.
“Those who carry illegal weapons will inevitable engage in crime,” said District Attorney David Hoovler. “My office will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to see that those who illegally carry or use illegally possessed firearms on our streets receive meaningful sentences of incarceration.”
