Helen Joyce Tyrrell, 91, Lake Ranch, FL, formerly Newburgh, NY

LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL – Helen Joyce Tyrrell, age 91, of Lakewood Ranch, Florida (formerly of
Newburgh, NY) entered into eternal life on November 17, 2022. Born on June 8th, 1931, to Asa B. and Hellen C. Gould in Matamoras, PA.

Helen graduated Middletown High School in the Class of 1949 before pursing her lifelong dream of
becoming a Nurse. She graduated from the Methodist School of Nursing in Brooklyn, NY, Class of
1952.

Upon completing school, she married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) J. Tyrrell on November 23, 1952. Helen also proudly obtained her BS in Nursing, at age of 60, from SUNY New Paltz. Helen was a dedicated nurse with a career that spanned over 42 years. She specialized in psychiatric, geriatric nursing but also had roles in Personnel and Supervision. Helen ended her career as an Infectious Disease Nurse for State of New York.

Helen and Bob briefly owned the Cup and Saucer Luncheonette in Port Jervis, NY.

Helen was a past Member of St. Paul’s United Methodist in Middletown, NY before moving and joining Grace United Methodist Church in the city of Newburgh. She was a dedicated servant to her beloved church where she sat on many boards, taught Sunday School and was a past President of the United Methodist Women. Helen and Bob served as co-chairs of their beloved Food Closet at Grace UMC for many years. She was also a past Matron of the Eastern Star Chapter #163.

Helen is survived by her three loving daughters, Hellen (Cathy) Masztalics and her husband, Joseph Masztalics of Lakewood Ranch, Florida; Susan Kubicek and her husband, Lawrence of Kingston, NY; and Alyson Stewart and her husband, Michael, of Poughkeepsie, NY. She was a loving, devoted,
and cherished grandmother to her 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren and an aunt to many beloved nieces and nephews.

Helen was predeceased by her loving husband, parents and siblings; Darrell Gould, Stanley Gould,
Joan Schupp and George Gould.
Helen was a devout Christian and lived her days with grace, kindness,  compassion, and love.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held December 29th at 10am at Grace United Methodist Church 468 Broadway Newburgh, NY.

Interment will be immediately following at the Orange County Veterans’ Cemetery.

Those who plan on attending are encouraged to wear Holiday attire as Christmas was her favorite time of year. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Helen’s honor to the United Methodist Committee on Relief  (UMCOR), Town of Newburgh SPCA or the Hudson Valley Food Bank.
