  • ‘Building Your Community Connections’ Virtual Workshop »

Beaded Shekere Workshop on Sunday, February 12th, from 2:30 – 5:30 p.m.

Safe Harbors Lobby at the Ritz, 107 Broadway, Newburgh

Join us as we come together as a community to celebrate Black History Month. We are excited to offer a Beaded Shekere Workshop led by Michael Soto. This event, limited to 20 participants, is open to ages 12 and up. For more information or to sign up by Thursday, February 9, contact June Henley  – jhenley@safe-harbors.org.

A shekere (or sekere) is a beautiful and unique instrument originating in West Africa that appears in various shapes, sizes and forms throughout the continent of Africa.  Made from a simple dried gourd with a beaded “skirt”, shekeres are a great addition to any environment where children are learning about music or world cultures.
