Orange County to host September 11th Patriot Day Remembrance Ceremony
Event honors the memory of the 44 Orange County residents who lost their lives during the 9/11 terrorist attacks
Goshen, N.Y. – Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus invites the community to attend the September 11th Patriot Day ceremony, which will be held at the Orange County Arboretum at Thomas Bull Memorial Park on Sunday, September 11th at 6 p.m.
This year’s keynote speaker will be Battalion Chief Eddie Boles, a longtime Orange County resident and almost 30-year member of the FDNY. Boles was a Firefighter in Ladder 34 in Washington Heights, Harlem on September 11, 2001, and arrived at Ground Zero shortly after the second Tower fell. He remained through the night into the next day, searching for friends, colleagues, and civilians who might have survived the collapse. Boles will share some of his memories of that day and how the events of 9/11 impacted him and the FDNY.
“The County’s ceremony on 9/11 provides us all an opportunity to join together in remembrance of those we lost and gives us a to moment to reflect upon our blessings,” Neuhaus said. “As we honor those Orange County residents who tragically died on 9/11, we promise ourselves that on this and every Patriots Day we will pay tribute to those who perished and keep in our thoughts and prayers those who continue to fight for our freedoms every day.”
The ceremony, which is open to the public, will honor the memory of the 44 Orange County residents who lost their lives during the 9/11 terrorist attacks and will also honor the brave military personnel who serve our nation. Families and survivors of 9/11, families of local military personnel, and veterans are invited to participate in the remembrance ceremony and join the procession by assembling at the Arboretum’s Ottaway Education Center at 5:30 p.m. The procession will begin at 5:55 p.m. followed promptly by the ceremony.
