Opera! Pike! Park!
August 29, 2021 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Live opera will once again fill the air in Milford, PA on August 29, 2021 in a free Opera! Pike! Park! concert on the lawn of the Ann Street Park in Milford Borough. Classic arias, duets, and songs will be performed by singers from the prestigious Academy of Vocal Arts (AVA) in Philadelphia from 4:00-6:00 pm.
Opera! Pike! Park! is part of the Music in the Park series presented by Milford Borough’s Parks and Recreation Committee. “Like everyone in the arts, we missed offering Opera! Pike! Park! last summer due to the pandemic. We are delighted to bring it back this year. We have a great group of volunteers working hard to make this year’s concert fabulous.” said Xavier Morales, the event’s founder and director.
Michael Zimmerman, who coordinates Music in the Park, said, “we’re excited to add Opera! Pike! Park! to this summer’s schedule of concerts in Ann Street Park which presently includes The Walt Edwards Memorial Concert on Sunday July 11th – the weekend of Milford Music Festival – and three by Kindred Spirits Arts Program in June and August. The lineup represents the triumphant return of concerts in the park. Music brings a community together and we appreciate the many volunteers and supporters who have made our summer music series possible each year.”
The Academy of Vocal Arts (AVA) of Philadelphia was established in 1934 to train young artists with the potential to become international opera soloists. They have been so successful that the Metropolitan Opera now presents The Beverly Sills Award to an AVA graduate each year. Their program in Milford will include five performers. Music director/pianist José Meléndez, Soprano Aubry Ballaró, Mezzo Soprano Anne Marie Stanley, Baritone Titus Muzi and Tenor Sahel Salam.
Maria Farrell, who heads the Milford Borough Council Parks & Recreation Committee, said “Our festivals provide entertainment, attract visitors and reinforce Milford’s positioning as a regional center for art and culture. These events also expose young people to an art form they may not otherwise have experienced. That can spark the imagination and inspire their dreams,” said Farrell.
Opera! Pike! Park! is family friendly and attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, snacks and beverages. Opera! Pike! Park! Is free for anyone to attend, however reservations via Eventbrite are required to receive a program. There also are a limited number of seats in folding chairs on the lawn, available for a fee.
