Orange County to host hazmat and pharmaceutical collections on November 6th
Events will be held at Delano Hitch Recreation Center in Newburgh
Orange County will host a Household Hazardous Waste and Operation Safe Scripts Pharmaceutical Collections for Orange County residents from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday November 6th at Delano Hitch Recreation Center in Newburgh, which is located at 401 Washington Avenue.
“These events provide an opportunity to dispose of unwanted and potentially hazardous chemicals that people often accumulate over the years in a safe, environmentally conscious way,” Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus said. “I hope that residents take advantage of this cost-free opportunity to clear their homes of unnecessary and potentially dangerous products.”
“Due to safety pre-cautions taken because of the COVID-19 pandemic, these events will be organized to ensure the safety and well-being of County residents and employees,” Neuhaus added.
The steps taken to ensure safety for all involved are as follows:
- All workers will wear a mask and proper PPE.
- Attendees are encouraged to come one person per vehicle and show their proof of residency through a closed window.
- Attendees are not to leave their vehicles unless in the case of an emergency.
- Residents shall pack their materials in the rear of their vehicles for workers to handle.
- Containers will not be returned to prevent potential for transmission.
The November 6th event is free for Orange County residents with proof of residency (driver’s license or utility bill with Orange County address) and will be held at Delano Hitch Recreation Center, located at 401 Washington Avenue, Newburgh. This event will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Deputies from the County Sheriff’s Office will be on hand to collect unwanted over-the-counter and prescription medication.
Fifty-five gallon drums or containers containing similar volumes of waste are not permitted at the Household Hazardous Waste event on November 6th.
