Family Raft Trip on Aug. 2

POND EDDY – The 32nd Annual Family Raft Trip sponsored by the Upper Delaware Council, Inc. (UDC) will take place on Sunday, Aug. 2. Sign up by July 27. The minimum rafting group size is four people; otherwise the reservation cannot be accepted.

The Delaware river section to be paddled is a scenic eight-mile stretch of the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River from Minisink Ford to Pond Eddy.

Rafters will rendezvous between 9-10 a.m. at Lander’s Pond Eddy Base located at 2395 State Rt. 97, Pond Eddy, to park, check in, and shuttle up to the Minisink Base.

The average length for this trip is 4.5 hours, depending on the river level, wind, and each group’s desired pace.

The UDC’s group discount rate is $29 for ages 13 and up, and $19 for ages 4-12. Children must weigh at least 40 pounds and be able to swim. The reservation must include complete contact information, all guest names, and the ages of any minor children under 18. All guests must sign liability waiver forms. Advance payment by cash or check is requested.

A downloadable registration flyer is posted in the Message Alert section of the UDC’s website home page. For more information, contact UDC Secretary Ashley Hall-Bagdonas at 252-3022 or ashley@upperdelawarecouncil.org.

The rafts can accommodate 4-7 people comfortably depending on the size of the individuals. Participants should be in good physical condition.

For optimum safety, all UDC participants (children and adults) will be required to wear a life jacket when they are on the water for the duration of the trip.

Dress to get wet, wear sunscreen and foot protection, and don’t bring valuables. Bring plenty of drinking water. Carry out trash. Glass containers are not allowed on the river. Small coolers and waterproof bags for items such as cameras and keys may be tied into the raft. Remember and respect that the majority of land along the river is privately owned.

The Upper Delaware Council (UDC) is a nonprofit organization working since 1988 in partnership with the National Park Service to conserve the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River.

Its members are the local New York towns and Pennsylvania townships which border on the river, as well as the State of New York, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and the Delaware River Basin Commission in a non-voting capacity.

The UDC organizes the raft trip annually to help promote stewardship of the river through direct interaction with its natural and scenic resources.
